Accreditation
Accrediting respiratory laboratories is the process whereby the professional standards and competence of a service are formally recognized by the TSANZ. Accreditation:
- encourages appropriate standards of medical care and practice to ensure that a service operates to an agreed standard
- formally recognizes services that achieve these standards
- maintains the standards by consultation and advice rather than regulation.
Laboratories need to meet the TSANZ accreditation specifications in order to satisfy the RACP requirements as a training site for Advanced Training in Respiratory and /or Sleep Medicine. All enquiries about accreditation are to be addressed to the TSANZ Executive Officer. Costs of accreditation include an application fee ($1,500 + GST) and a site visit fee ($2,500 + GST).
Accreditation of sleep laboratories is now undertaken by the Australasian Sleep Association (ASA). They can also be contacted about sleep facilities.
