Aim

The TSANZ Vertex Adult Cystic Fibrosis Award supports a clinical, scientific, or research professional working in respiratory medicine who wishes to undertake research into adult cystic fibrosis (CF) in Australia or New Zealand. Teams are welcome to apply.

This award aims to foster the development of knowledge in the adult CF specialty area. The funding contribution from TSANZ will be to the value of AU $75,000 over two years, with AU $60,000 paid upfront and the remaining AU $15,000 paid on completion of a report or publication.

Partnership

TSANZ invites expressions of interest (EoI) from Australian or New Zealand Institutions to partner in this award supporting respiratory health. This partnership will increase the impact of this sponsored award which endeavors to improve the lives of children with CF.

An EoI from an applicant’s institution is required to accompany all proposals. We are seeking partners who will pledge to co-fund the award and may choose to be co-badged with TSANZ. This partnership will provide financial and in-kind support at a value determined by the institute.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this travel grant, the applicant must:

  1. Be a current member of the TSANZ[1],
  2. Be a citizen or permanent resident in Australia/New Zealand

 

 

[1] Financial member of the TSANZ who has obtained the support of a proposer and seconder and has been endorsed by the TSANZ Board

Conditions

The following conditions must be meet by members receiving this award:

  • The funds may be used to support any direct project costs (including salary). Indirect costs will not be covered.
  • Each year’s funds should be spent within 12 months of the Award being taken up.
  • A one-year progress report and a final report is required by the TSANZ.
  • Research conducted during the term of the Award will be submitted to an appropriate session at a future TSANZ ASM.
  • Any publications and research output from this Award must acknowledge the sources of funding (co-badged).

Note: If the Award is considered by TSANZ to not be used for its intended purpose, the Award may be revoked. These conditions must be met to remain eligible for future award rounds.

Applications will contain the following:

  • A project proposal including:
    • A proposal clearly stating how this award is to be used, include proposed senior investigator/supervisor, research questions, methodology, statistical analysis, budget and feasibility of completing the project within time frame (three A4 pages, plus references).
    • Details on the scientific and professional significance of this project (one A4 page).
  • EOI from the supporting institution including:
    • Letter of support detailing resources pledged, with both in cash and in-kind support outlined with attached value.
    • Signed by an institutional appointment authorised to pledge support of this value and including the statement, “I (name) holding the position of (appointment) commit (name of institution) to co-fund the TSANZ Vertex Adult Cystic Fibrosis Partnership Award in the cash amount of AUD XX and the in-kind amount of XX”.
  • A track record of the applicant and the senior investigator/supervising researcher. Include any significant career disruptions (maximum two A4 pages each).
  • Publications over the last five years, excluding career disruptions (maximum 5 pages).
  • All text must be submitted on A4 pages with a 2cm margin to the top, bottom, left and right. Text must be single line spaced, with size 12 Times New Roman font. No columns are permitted.

Selection Process

Applications will be assessed by members of the TSANZ  Research Committee using the responses to the criteria questions, and the following criteria to assess the fellowship proposal:

The award will be presented at the 2020 TSANZ ASM, however the successful applicant will be notified prior to the ASM.
Note: In the event of there being no suitable applicants the Fellowship may not be awarded.
