Boehringer Ingelheim COPD/ACCP Travel Award

This travel award is designed to reward, encourage and provide international exposure for
Advanced Trainees in Respiratory Medicine, junior Respiratory Physicians, post‚Äźdoctoral respiratory healthcare professionals, and Respiratory Researchers whose work focuses on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The award consists of up to AUD$4000 to cover the recipient’s expenses (return airfare to North America, registration, accommodation, living expenses) to attend and present an abstract at the next meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP).


To be eligible for this travel grant, the applicant must:

  • Be a current member of TSANZ[1],
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand,
  • Be currently undertaking advanced training in Respiratory Medicine, or have completed training within the last five years of the closing date for this application, or
  • Have completed a research higher degree in the last five years of the closing date for this
  • Be submitting an abstract on COPD based work as a presenting author for the TSANZ ASM, and
  • Available to attend the next meeting of ACCP and to present an abstract based on similar
    work to that presented at the TSANZ ASM.

Note: Previous recipients of this award over the last three years are not eligible to apply.

[1] Financial member of the TSANZ who has obtained the support of a proposer and seconder and has been endorsed by the TSANZ Board


The following conditions must be meet by members receiving this award:

  • The award must be used within one year of the receipt of the travel grant
  • Recipients are required to submit a report within 2 months of attendance at the ACCP
    meeting, for publication in the TSANZ newsletter.
  • Sponsor of this travel grant – Boehringer Ingelheim must be acknowledged in every publications related to this abstract

A track record

  • This will be a maximum two of A4 pages. Include any significant career disruptions supporting eligibility outside the listed criteria.

Publications over the last five years

  • Years 2011-2016, excluding career disruptions (unlimited pages). 


  • All text must be submitted on A4 pages with a 2cm margin to the top, bottom, left and right. Text must be single line spaced, with size 12 Times New Roman font. No columns are permitted.

  • Applicants may only receive one TSANZ International Travel Award for a given abstract in each round of applications.
  • The awards will be presented at the 2017 TSANZ ASM; however the successful applicants will be notified prior to the ASM.
