Applicants can apply to more than one conference but will only be eligible to be awarded one of the five travel grants (ie: if an applicant is successful with their application for a travel grant to ATS 2019, they are automatically excluded from being awarded a travel grant for either of the two other conferences).

The applicant must be able to provide a signed letter of support from their employer or supervisor permitting and supporting their attendance at the particular conference of their choice.

Selection Criteria and Conditions of Application

The selection criteria for these travel grants are based upon merit, the value of the attendance by the applicant as an individual and to their organisation, the demonstrated need for this funding and the demonstrated assistance to COPD patients by their attendance at the conference.  Extra weighting will apply to the scientific merit of an accepted Abstract (Oral or Poster) for the particular conference being applied for.

All applicants must be members of both the Lung Foundation Australia and Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ).

Applicants will be assessed by an Independent Selection Committee.  Travel grants will be awarded on the merit of each applicant. Previous travel grant winners are welcomed to apply however preference of equal scoring applications will be given to new applicants. Successful applicants will be notified as per the timelines below.

A recipient of a travel grant is required to travel directly to and from the conference.

Applicants must outline in the application below the reasons for attendance and the need for this grant. This may include benefits of networking with peers, additional costs incurred, or being able to host/attend a meeting with a common interest in COPD such as pulmonary rehabilitation. The employer/supervisor must also provide benefits from an organisation perspective about the applicant needing the grant.

It is expected that applicants will attend at least 50% COPD related topics at the respective conference that they will be attending.
