Aim

To foster ongoing original cystic fibrosis research and its communication internationally.

The winners will receive an award up to the value of AUD$7500 each to support their economy class travel, registration and accommodation to present their research at the European Cystic Fibrosis Society Annual Meeting or the North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference. There are two awards available in total.

Abstracts which focus on the following research areas are encouraged to apply:

  • CFTR gene and protein (biomarkers and function)
  • Functional implication of different mutations
  • Relationship between genotype and phenotype
  • Mechanisms of action
  • Implications of CFTR in the body

Emerging treatment, including:

  • Patient-reported outcomes
  • Treatment options
  • Personalized medicine
  • Lung function testing

Eligibility

To be eligible for this travel grant, the applicant must:

  1. Be a current member of the TSANZ[1],
  2. Be a citizen or permanent resident in Australia/New Zealand.
  3. Currently undertaking research in cystic fibrosis,
  4. Undertaking or have completed advanced training in any health or science professional discipline in an area directly relevant to cystic fibrosis research within the last five years of the closing date for this application, OR
  5. Undertaking or have completed a research higher degree in an area directly relevant to cystic fibrosis research within the last five years of the closing date for this application.

Conditions

The following conditions must be meet by members receiving this award:

  • Travel must be undertaken as proposed and within one year of receiving the award.
  • The award recipient will receive reimbursement of the required travel, accommodation and registration costs on the provision of receipts to the TSANZ office.
  • A report summarising the outcomes of the travel is expected to be provided to the TSANZ’s Research Sub-Committee, two months after completing the travel.

Note: These conditions must be met to remain eligible for future award rounds.

Applications will contain the following

Your application should include:

  • A statement describing your cystic fibrosis research (maximum two A4 pages, plus references).
  • A summary of the proposed travel, with details the conference to be attended, and the travel budget (maximum one A4 page).
  • A statement describing the benefit of the award to their research and career development (maximum one A4 page).

Track record

  • A track record (maximum two A4 pages). Include any significant career disruptions supporting eligibility outside the listed criteria.

Publications

  • Publications over the last five years, excluding career disruptions (unlimited pages).

Format

  • All text must be submitted on A4 pages with a 2cm margin to the top, bottom, left and right. Text must be single line spaced, with size 12 Times New Roman font. No columns are permitted.
